Genre of photography love most

Was asked by a fellow photographer re the genre of photography that I enjoy doing and almost immediately macro photography comes to mind as for me, unlike many other genres, where what you see is what you get, macro brings you to a different level of awareness and you end up taking photographs that you would ordinarily not be able to see with your naked eye. Things or insects are all fair game; living and inanimate are also great subjects; good or bad lighting brings along different moods and styles; even the most humble leaf can bring great joy when photographed close-up to reveal its veins and hairs. Every time I lack ideas or inspiration or things just become just another street photograph, a return to macro or more specifically taking photos of the bugs brings back the joy of seeing the world in a different way. To me, that's the whole point of taking photographs - to see the world differently.

What I have been up to?

For starters, I went in a totally new direction for my career. Most were surprised but I am thankful. To me, they extended a helping hand when everyone else’s arms were folded tightly behind their backs. I must give this a shot & find the love I always had for the work that I do.

Another joy I hope to last for a lifetime is photography. I enrolled in a short weekend course & discovered that EVERYONE owns a DSLR so promptly went out & got myself a Nikon D90. I hope that I have made a right choice. Found out later that it’s the start of a long lasting “love-hate” relationship as there are cleaning cloths, lens, filters, remote (timer is the other option), camera bags, tripod etc to purchase on top of the usual stuff. So far, have been monitoring my purchases so that I can keep to the bare minimum (hopefully) whilst being able to learn how to take some nice shots of my kiddos & places I visit. Actually quite happy to have taken up this hobby as I have now been to places that I have not even stepped in for my entire lifetime in my own home country so this is giving me the perfect excuse to roam the streets! My photography escapades are in another blog that I set up just for this…hop by to http://accidentalsingaporetourist.blogspot.com/ :)
